Today (yesterday now...) Victoria celebrated being on this earth for five months by taking two (so far) really long naps. Last week we had decided that it was time to start sleep training again. This time armed with more knowledge and some good beer. We did our regular bed time routine except I didn't let her fall asleep nursing, instead I put her in her crib (drowsy but awake - this comment is for all the other parents out there that have done this) and sat myself down beside the crib to provide moral support. Or something. At first all was good, she just laid there and would smile at me when our eyes met. Then she started fussing and looking at me. Then she cried - oh how she cried. I talked to her, sang to her, stroked her hair and wiped her tears but I didn't pick her up. She eventually fell asleep (well over the hour average - but I guess someone has to be the over achiever) and stayed asleep until 1:30. Victory.
This morning came around and I wasn't really looking forward to the struggle to get her to nap. But on her two naps so far the fussing only lasted 10-15 minutes and she fell asleep. I don't think we've solved our sleep issues by any stretch of the imagination but we are definitely on our way.

She was sleeping so well this morning that we almost missed swimming lesson. Luckily, the pool is very close and no one seemed to mind me breastfeeding her on the side of the pool five minutes before class. Side note: I've read tonnes of posts on Facebook/Twitter/... all stating the negative reactions people have gotten from breastfeeding in public. Maybe we've been lucky and just not had the misfortune of running into these people or maybe it's a bit overblown?? I've never had someone say anything to us, or give us dirty looks (also haven't gotten any high fives...). Swimming was a hit - we got her face in the pool today. I'm not sure what she thought of that - there were no tears so she didn't hate it. And she's a pretty good back floater and by float I mean held up by me but on her back - she rocks at that and seems to enjoy looking at the ceiling.
Victoria can now roll from front to back and back to front - although she mainly likes to roll onto her side so she can check out where her dogs are. She's still being a rockstar at the gym and really in general, smiling all the time and letting out a singular 'ha' when something is only a little bit funny.
Note: night two went slightly better with less crying and she slept til 8:30 (still with waking up for feedings in the night).

Last Sunday, I pushed Victoria in a 7 km run - The Run Wild for Wildlife fundraiser for the Edmonton Wildlife Rehabilitation Society . Together we raised $150 (thanks donors) and survived the 2 degree weather. I haven't run further than 400 metres since probably August and the last time I ran 7 km was at last years Run Wild...
We finished and only 2 minutes slower than last year which I'm saying is all about learning how to run with a stroller on run day. Oh yeah, that was also a first - running with a stroller. Like I said we survived and I'm pretty sure she was the warmest person there! Maybe before next years race I will go for some runs...probably not. We met a very nice young man (10 yr old Daniel) who we crossed the finish line with. That's right, a ten year old finished with us and he told me the week previous he had run a 30 minute 5 k, which I think is amazing for 10. He came in third place for the children's race. He was walking when we caught up with him so I started talking with him and we ran the last 500 metres in together.
Until next time.
